When you visit our showroom, you will encounter many different models of electric fireplaces. In order to narrow your options, we will have several questions. We suggest that you bring detailed measurements of your room, including floor space and wall space, as well as any obstacles along the walls, like windows and doors. If you are purchasing an insert for an existing wood-burning or gas-burning fireplace, you will need the width and height of the opening, as well as the depth of the opening. Photos are also helpful, as are fabric and paint swatches. In addition, please consider the following tips on How to Choose an Electric Fireplace:
|
|
Size of the Room
Choose a fireplace that is the correct scale for the room. In our experience, many people choose a fireplace that is too small for their space. For instance, in a room with 8 foot ceilings, a mantle that's 43" to 48" high will suffice. However, in rooms with ceiling heights greater than 8 feet, you could consider a mantle height greater than 48", with a corresponding width. |

Colour of the Other Furnishings
Many people choose a fireplace unit as if it's part of the wall, with a white painted finish similar to their baseboards and trim. We suggest that you also look at the colour of your other furnishings, and treat the fireplace like a piece of furniture or as a work of functional art. For instance, if your other furnishings are not stark white, then a white mantle may not be the best choice for your room. Consider a mantle in a wood tone that complements the other woods in the room, or in a painted finish that repeats wall or fabric colours. Or, in the case of wall-mounted fireplaces, think of them as contemporary pieces of art. |

|
Style of Your Home
The details on your fireplace should complement and repeat the details in your home's finishes, and in your other furnishings. For instance, a very plain mantle will look odd when surrounded by very ornate furnishings, and vice versa. A more contemporary space might cry out for a contemporary wall-mounted fireplace, rather than a traditional mantle and surround. |

|
Quality of Your Home
The quality of your fireplace, both the firebox and the mantle, should reflect the quality of your home. An entry-level fireplace will not do justice to a custom-quality home or fine furnishings, but may be perfect for your first condo. An entry-level fireplace will generally be smaller, wtih a simple mantle and smaller firebox. Better-quality fireplaces will have larger mantles, with more details, more finish options, and larger, more realistic fireboxes. |

Importance of the Fireplace
If the fireplace is to be the focal point, it should be interesting enough to hold one's attention. The flame should appear as realistic as possible, and the mantle should be worthy of being stared at. In a room with a TV, think about how you want the fireplace and the TV to relate to one another. If the TV is to be above the fireplace, you will need to balance the size of the TV with the mantle and firebox. |
