Designers are often asked where they begin with a makeover project.  Where do we get our design inspiration? Sometimes, we’re starting with a blank slate, and anything goes.  More often, there are existing elements around which we must work, including rugs, art, or fabrics.  Even when we have a blank slate, good designers will defer to client likes and dislikes, and lifestyle briefs.  In other words, there are as many different inspirations as there are projects and clients.  Here are a few of our works in progress, to give you the general idea:

Existing pillows and the clients’ love of black accents lead to our selection of chair and drapery fabrics for this living room.

The client’s art and existing wall colour dictated the fabric selections for new linens for her daybed.

The clients’ love of their cottage inspired our selection of a Canadian Shield rockface mural for their condo den.

An existing burgundy leather recliner and dining chair fabrics dictated our choice of these fabrics and area rug for a living room facelift.

Colourful artwork was a cue that these clients would embrace colourful fabrics for their family room makeover.

A gorgeous area rug, and a desire to get away from off-white sofas, led to the selection of these fabrics for living room furniture reupholstery. As it turned out, the introduction of deep blues and browns also worked perfectly with the adjoining kitchen, as well as an existing custom stair runner.
