The Signature electric fireplace is a unique fusion of the Amantii TRD fireplace insert with LED flames and  the Optimyst water-based flame technology from Dimplex. Amantii has created this built-in electric fireplace around the Dimplex CDFI500-Pro Optimyst cassette, surrounding the cassette with the same flames and accent lighting features that are found in other TRD fireplace inserts. This means that the natural yellow mist flames are enhanced by yellow, orange or red LED flames in the background, as well as overhead lighting, and a flickering ember bed. Each flame set can be operated independently of the other, so you can have mist-only or LED-only, in addition to having them operating together.

Unlike other TRD electric fireplace inserts, the Signature unit comes in just one size, and is built-in, rather than a slide-in. It is also deeper than other electric fireplaces, including other TRD inserts, with a framing depth of 20.875 inches. This extra depth provides added realism for the flames, as well as making space for larger, more realistic logs inside the firebox.

Amantii Signature vs. other electric fireplace inserts

Amantii Signature BI-TRD-38-SIG is currently the only electric fireplace insert to combine Optimyst technology with the features of a regular LED insert. This means that no other electric fireplace will have these exact features. However, we can compare it to other fireplace inserts of similar size.

Amantii TRD and TRD-Bespoke – These are slide-in fireplace inserts that come in a comparable size to the Signature, TRD-38 and TRD-38-Bespoke. Both have big, open viewing areas with picture frame surrounds, and a 14-inch framing depth. There are multiple log options for TRD and TRD-Bespoke inserts, as the logs are loose. LED flames are reflected off the back of the insert. Dual-voltage installation and higher heat outputs are not available.

Dimplex Revillusion – These inserts make use of the patented Mirage Flame Panel to create the illusion of the flames being in the midst of the logs. The RBF36P-FG would be the closest in size to the Signature. Revillusion inserts are not as deep as Signature, with just 12.5-inches of framing depth required. Revillusion does come with a dual-voltage connection, and heat output up to 10,000 BTUs on 240 volts.

Napoleon Elevation – Elevation inserts feature triple-layer LED flames, and require a framing depth of 16.25 inches. The 36-inch model has very similar proportions to the Signature. Elevation is dual-voltage, and therefore has a heat output of 5000 BTUs on 120 volts, or 10,000 BTUs on 240 volts.                        

Napoleon Element –Element is an entry-level fireplace insert with flames that reflect off the back of the insert. Logs are lit from above, but do not glow from within. These inserts come in 36-inch and 42-inch sizes, with a framing depth of just 11-inches or 13.75-inches, respectively. Element does offer dual-voltage electrical connections, so heat output is available up to 10,000 BTUs on 240 volts.

Modern Flames Orion Traditional – This insert has video flame technology called Heliovision, so flames are from an LCD projection. This gives them a very realistic flame effect. Orion is not as square as Signature, and the closest sizes are 36-inches and 42-inches wide.  Orion Traditional also has a framing depth of just 10-inches. Larger sizes of Orion Traditional (36, 42, 54 inches only) have dual-voltage capabilities, with a maximum heat output of 8300 BTUs on 240 volts.

Conclusion

Combining Optimyst technology with a traditional electric fireplace format is an idea that is long overdue. Amantii Signature is a great-looking traditional insert with very realistic flames. The only hiccup is that there are 2 remotes (at the time of this review), one for the TRD and one for the Optimyst. We hope that this will be addressed in the next generation, to simplify operation. However, it’s worth the extra hassle to get the impressive flame effect.
