At Stylish Fireplaces, we sell the majority of our fireplaces for houses. However, they are also a popular option for condos. Electric fireplaces are ideal for condominiums for several reasons:

  • No need for gas line.
  • The ability to install the fireplace after construction.
  • The ability to control the heat output, or to have no heat at all.
  • The variety of shapes and sizes, including low-profile units that don’t take up precious floor space.

Below, we share some of our favourite electric fireplaces for condos and apartments.

The Best Free-standing Electric Fireplaces for Condos

If you’re going to add a fireplace to your condo after construction is completed, it makes sense that a free-standing model would be the simplest way to go. By definition, a free-standing electric fireplace requires no construction, and can be added or removed from a room like a piece of furniture. Electric fireplaces are well-suited to this format, as they are truly zero-clearance, and can be built into furniture pieces or set up against any wall. Free-standing electric fireplace styles range from rustic to contemporary. Here are some of the best:

The Amantii Lynwood stove falls into the rustic category. We love that it has a cast-iron top and sides, for authenticity and a real woodstove appearance. Bevelled glass on the viewing window also elevates the style of this electric fireplace. The Lynwood comes in 2 sizes, for flexibility in your room design. A birch log kit comes standard, and may be arranged by the user to further personalize the unit. Or, you can choose one of Amantii’s many optional media kits, including ice crystals, for a more contemporary look.

The Napoleon Taylor mantel package falls into the classic-traditional category. While a full-size mantel might seem too large for a condo, it’s the perfect solution for those who have always had, or always wanted to have, a real fireplace. The limitations of condo living don’t allow for a traditional wood-burning fireplace, so the Taylor is the next best thing. The mantel is classic in style, with simple black  faux stone surrounding the impressive Ascent 33-inch insert with logs. When placed against the wall in a room with white moldings and doors, the Taylor looks like it’s part of the architecture.

The Amantii Cube 3-sided fireplace is a contemporary electric fireplace with several free-standing options. You can set it up on a 4-legged base, to look like a modern woodstove. Or, set it up on a specially designed Bluetooth speaker base, for a unique multifunctional piece that does double-duty in a single footprint. Like the Amantii Lynwood, the Cube comes standard with a birch log kit, and there are lots of other media options available to personalize the fireplace to suit your style.

The Best Wall-mounted Electric Fireplaces for Condos

Due to the way in which condo walls are constructed, it’s not possible to insert an electric fireplace into the existing walls. Fortunately, there are lots of options for mounting electric fireplaces on the wall surface.

The Napoleon Stylus series currently includes 2 designs: Cara and Steinfeld. Both can be hung on the wall and plugged into a regular outlet. In a pinch, you could even set them up on a table top or half-wall. Cara features an asymmetrical design in black and white; Steinfeld comes in a classic burnished walnut finish. Both feature USB chargers, and a lighted display shelf for added functionality. They have all of the features that we love in other Napoleon electric fireplaces, including flames that change colour from orange to yellow to blue, plus a heater with thermostat control.

When space is truly at a premium, Napoleon also has a couple of tidy vertical fireplaces that may be wall-mounted. Though compact in size, these wall-mounts offer up coloured flames and heat like their larger counterparts.

If you are lucky enough to have a large wall on which you’d like to have a fireplace, Amantii has an extensive line of wall-mounted units, with either glass or metal faceplates. They range in size from 36 inches to 96 inches wide. Whether you choose the metal or glass faceplate, you will enjoy flames that change colour from orange to yellow to blue, as well as LED accent lighting behind the faceplate, to wash the wall in light. Heat blows out the front, so it’s perfectly safe to mount these units below a TV.

The Best Shallow Electric Fireplaces for Condos

Sometimes, you just don’t have the space to have a fireplace sticking out into the room. One of the great advantages of electric fireplaces over gas is how much less space they take up compared to a similar style in gas. The slimmest electric fireplaces are linear in style, and come in depths as shallow as 4-inches. Not all of these units may be mounted on a wall, so when we find models that are both slim and may be surface-mounted, we’re pretty excited.

Napoleon Alluravision fireplaces come in both 6-inch and 4.5-inch depths, and may be surface-mounted or flush-mounted. In fact, Napoleon includes clever metal end panels for those who want to wall-mount their Alluravision fireplace. The end panels cover the unsightly screws and openings that would normally be visible when the sides are exposed. Alluravision models feature yellow-orange-blue flames, thermostat control, and LED accent lighting. Sizes range from 42-inches to 74-inches in width.

Another great slim, linear option is the Modern Flames Spectrum Slimline. At just 4-inches deep, it’s the slimmest of the wall-mountable electric fireplaces. It features HybridFX flame technology and high-intensity LED accent lighting, with a sleek 5/8-inch frame around the glass viewing window. Sizes range from 50-inches to 100-inches wide.
