One of the things we do in our Toronto-area showroom is to help clients compare various models of electric fireplaces. Often, they want us to give them a good-better-best comparison, based on the criteria that are important to them. Combined with the visual impact of the flames and other lighting features, this allows our customers to select the best electric fireplace for them. Below, we’ve created a 2022 Electric Fireplace Buyers Guide that summarizes all of the most relevant features that we use to compare fireplaces.

We have excluded some features that are common to the majority of electric fireplaces:

  • All electric fireplaces will connect to 120 volt connection.
  • Most electric fireplaces have built-in heaters with thermostat.
    • It’s also important to note that you don’t have to use the heater on an electric fireplace – the flames may be operated with or without heat.
    • Heaters with 120 volt connection will produce up to 5000 BTUs, and can warm up an area up to 400 square feet.
  • All electric fireplaces are zero-clearance; there is no combustion inside, so surrounding materials do not need to be fire-proof.
  • The glass on all electric fireplaces stays cool to the touch, even when the heater is on, so they are safe for families with small children and pets.
  • Electric fireplaces do not burn fossil fuels and do not create carbon emissions, so they are not contributing to climate change.

Here are a few tips before using our 2022 Electric Fireplace Buyers Guide to find your next electric fireplace:

  • We have organized the table by product style (linear, linear extra-slim, 3-sided, see-through, traditional) and then by brand (Amantii, Dimplex, Modern Flames, Napoleon).
  • Within each brand, there are usually multiple options within a style category. Generally, the higher-priced unit will be the better or best, and will either have more features, newer technology, or better quality components, or all of these.
  • Good-better-best may correlate loosely to price, but not always. If you are looking for the most coloured lights in the ember bed, then compare products that have the biggest numbers in that column. This will be your personal good-better-best. Likewise, if you need more power for the heater, for a large space or a very cold room, then compare products that have a ‘yes’ in the ‘240 volts’ column.
  • Use this table to narrow down the models that have the features you want, then go online to look at our videos, call or do a live chat with one of our specialists, or visit our showroom to confirm which fireplace is best for you.
  • Prices are going to change after this table is created. They are listed as a point of comparison. The actual numbers will change, but the relationship between models should remain the same.
  • Each item on the left has a link to the corresponding product page on our website, so you can easily get more details.
